Answers and New Ideas

So back to the issue of Fresh vs. Silk Flowers. Here are the answers from yesterday:

That earthy look- those are real calla's in there!
Beautiful spring colors- also real!
The fall centerpiece- silk orchids!
And finally, the famous calla's- they're silk!

Only you can decide what is right for your wedding, everyone has their own opinions. Some things to keep in mind:

1. Silk flowers don't die or wilt- you have your wedding bouquet pretty much forever

2. Fresh flowers are usually prettier in person (but could you tell in those pictures yesterday?)

3. Fresh flowers smell soo good :)

Remember that you can use our website, http://www.designedbythebride.com/ to play with all different combinations of flowers, centerpieces and cakes!

Speaking of the website, we probably owe it some more attention. You can read on the About Us section to see how we came about, but the purpose of our blog is to help our users get some ideas. It can be mind boggling to have to do all that wedding stuff and sometimes you just need a starting point. If you are having trouble coming up with an idea for something or have any questions for us about the website, feel free to ask us!

Something that we would like to start on our blog is to compare your designs from the website to your real life wedding pictures. That way other brides-to-be can see how helpful it is to do a "virtual" design. If you would be interested in sharing your pictures, email us at designedbythebride@gmail.com!

The Simple

Any girl would love to get that dozen roses, but I think we can all agree that a single red rose can be just as romantic, if not more! The same idea can go for your centerpieces - make them gorgeous and romantic without breaking the bank. Here are a few ideas for some simple, on a budget, centerpieces...

Tea cups along with roses can be timeless. Perfect for a garden themed wedding and would also be great at a bridal shower! Found at MyWeddingFlowerIdeas.co.uk

I love the reds and oranges of fall, such a Classy Touch with the wine glass... just imagine this simple centerpiece on a beautiful Autumn day with all the colors of the leaves, just gorgeous!

Simple and bright! These Do-It-Yourself Daisies will go with any color theme and can be dressed up with funky and colorful vases!

Finally, something a little more dramatic. It's as if the tulip is blowing in the wind - this can really help set the atmosphere of your reception! Found here.

The rose bouquet

So upon hearing the words "rose bouquet" you've probably already pictured something that looks a little like this:

This is gorgeous yet there are so many more options out there...

This one found on Blossoms.com.au has a little twist on the traditional by using a variety of smaller sizes.

Delicate looks from In Style Weddings USA

Looking for something a little more edgy... found this dramatic bouquet on myweddingflowerideas.co.uk

There are lots of modern options with different wrappings of grasses, wire and all sorts of things. Have fun with it like this designer did!

Now this "bouquet" from The Wedding Information Site is completely unique.

Love this very sweet girly bouquet from The Flower Pot

A "rose is a rose is a rose" but a rose bouquet is a different story...

Getting Started

Designed by the Bride has joined the world of blogging! We decided this would be a great way to share inspiration for those of you on our website creating flower arrangements and cakes. A blank canvas can be a little overwhelming... so here you will find pictures of event florals and cakes to help get your creative juices flowing!

Here we go with some garden style inspirations...

Found this great idea on www.offbeatbride.com for guests to hand the bride flowers as she walks the aisle to create her bouquet. I would recommend having the maid of honor or a bridesmaid have some ribbon to tie the flowers together. Great way to get a very natural bunch of flowers look.

Love this adorable "bag of blooms" from Martha Stewart Weddings.

Top it off with this fabulous cake by www.wildflowersbylori.com. Her cakes are absolutely amazing and yes those flowers are all made of sugar!!! wow!
